It's still a bit early in my opinion.
Ideally, I'd like to fix #84 and support SNAPSHOTs somewhat consistently (without the current hack that relies on the Gradle implementation) before going 1.0.0

How about releasing 1.0.0 now and 2.0.0 (1.1.0) with the snapshots?
