3.6.4. Voltage and current characteristics of solar panels and pumps

This is a report of an investigation in progress on the voltage and current characteristics of two pumps powered by solar panels. The goal is to be able to estimate hard to measure flow rates from easy to measure voltages or currents. The data was collected using hand volt meters and programmable power supplies.

The different colors represent different test conditions. The green points represents solar power. The other colors represent different power supplies. The probable cause of the differences is the internal resistance of each different power supplies. Other differences may include pump head differences and constrictions in flow. Os plotted represent pump flow while Xs represent a stalled pump.
