Itinera Nova is the collaborative transcription platform of the City Archive of Leuven. The platform was developed by HKI Cologne between 2009 and 2012. The Itinera Nova project until today has an active user community of volunteers so that the database meanwhile contains several thousand transcribed register book pages.
The core of the platform is an easy to use XML/TEI WYSIWYM editor, which presents a (life-validating) wiki-syntax to the user that is internally converted into TEI. The editor is embedded in a readactory system where volunteers and moderators can critically discuss their revisions with the help of a version difference tool. Since May 2015 the platform is not hosted on servers of HKI Cologne any more. The new provider is kangaroot.
