Problem Description
Teletext subtitling missing on Handbrake Version 1.6.0 also on previous version 1.5.1. When a .ts file is imported to the Handbrake, the menu navigation on Handbrake app/software for teletext subtitling cannot be selected the page numbers of the teletext subtitling – it does not exist. The simple direct selection for teletext subtitling on the menu is missing on Handbrake app/software itself.
Input and output file?
Input file: .ts with coded teletext-subtitling-signal; SD, and HD resolution; Output file: .mp4 in SD, and HD resolution with visible subtitling (burn-in subtitling). This function is currently not possible with Handbrake to use at this moment. How sad it is!
Purpose?
Education (to learn and understand the written language of subtitling) and historical archiving.
General comments
Many television channels in Europe offer programmes with teletext subtitles, e.g., on important educational topics such as documentaries, scientific content, or reports of individuals person's life, language, and cultures. The most common page numbers for teletext subtitling in Europe are on teletext pages 777 and 888. Some TV broadcasters in Europe do not want to follow the European standard for teletext subtitles, for example on teletext pages 149, 150, 199, 299, 399, 444, 499, 599, 690, 699, 778, 784, 801, 880, 881, 882, 883, 884, 889, 890, 891, 892, 893, 899. It should also be possible to enter the teletext subtitles manually by page number of the teletext page on the app/software of Handbrake. The number of programmes with subtitles will gradually increase. But beware, there are some TV channels in Europe that no longer offer a teletext service, i.e., no information is displayed on the screen of the teletext pages. However, the subtitles are still broadcast only "hidden". Simply press the teletext key on the remote control of the TV set, the picture appears only black, continue to select the teletext subtitle page, then with time (please be patient) subtitles will suddenly be visible on the screen. This also applies to recorded saved .ts files. In some European countries it is a legal requirement that television broadcasters continue to transmit subtitles via teletext systems, even if the teletext service has been discontinued.
Thank you for thinking of barrier-free accessibility with teletext subtitling. Especially thank you if this feature is added in and on the Handbrake app/software in advance.
