Directly Connecting a PC (not recommended)

You will need:

  • 1 Ethernet cable
  • A laptop or PC with an ethernet port
  • The list of static IP addresses, the default gateway as well as the DNS Server address provided to you by the Studierendenwerk

This guide assumes that you are using Windows 10. If you are using another operating system and are struggling to connect to the internet, we would urge you to rather set up a router and connect through it instead. If this is not an option for some reason, please contact the network admins.

Setting It Up

  1. Plug the one end of the ethernet cable into your laptop/PC and the other into the ethernet socket of your room.
  2. On your laptop/PC, open the Control Panel.
  3. Open the Network and Internet manager.
  4. Open the Network and Sharing center.
  5. You should see a single network who's connections should indicate Ethernet followed by a number. Click on the Ethernet followed by a number.
  6. A new window showing the status of the ethernet connection should open. You should see No internet access under IPv4 connectivity. Now click on Properties.
  7. Another window with a list should open. You need to scroll through the list until you see Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4). Click on it and then on the Properties button at the bottom right.
  8. Choose the Use the following IP address option.
  9. Now enter the IP address, subnet mask, default gateway and the preferred DNS server that was given to you by the Studierendenwerk.

You should have a working internet connection on that specific laptop/PC now. If the guid didn't work or you need help, please contact the network admins.

PC direkt verbinden (nicht empfohlen)

Du benötigst:

  • 1 Ethernet-Kabel
  • Einen Laptop oder einen PC mit einem Ethernet-Port
  • Die Liste von statischen IP-Adressen, den Default Gateway, sowie die DNS Serveradresse die du vom Studierendenwerk erhalten hast

Diese Anleitung geht davon aus, dass dein Laptop/PC Windows 10 benutzt. Falls du ein anderes Betriebsystem benutzen solltest und Probleme hast für es Internet einzurichten, wollen wir dir noch mal nahe legen lieber einen Router einzurichten und den Laptop/PC darüber ans Internet zu koppeln. Falls das aus irgendeinem Grund keine Möglichkeit ist, dann schreib bitte einen Netzwerkadmin an.

Einrichtung

  1. Steck das eine Ende des Ethernet-Kabels in deinen Laptop/PC und das andere Ende in das Ethernet-Port deines Zimmers ein.
  2. Öffne die Systemsteuereung auf deinem Laptop/PC.
  3. Clicke auf Netzwerk und Internet.
  4. Clicke auf Netzwer- und Freigabecenter.
  5. Du solltest ein einziges Netzwerk mit einer Verbindung namens Ethernet gefolgt von einer Nummer sein sollte. Click auf Ethernet gefolgt von einer Nummer.
  6. Ein neues Fenster sollte aufkommen, dass den Status der Ethernetverbindung anzeigt und du solltest unter IPv4-Konnektivität Kein Internetzugriff stehen sehen. Click auf Eigenschaften.
  7. Ein neues Fenster sollte geöffnet werden. Du musst in der Liste scrollen, bis du Internetprotokoll Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) siehtst. Click dadrauf und dann auf den Eigneschaften-Button rechts unten.
  8. Wähl die Folgende IP-Adresse verwenden Option aus.
  9. Zuletzt musst du die IP Adresse, die Subnetzmaske, den Default Gateway sowie den bevorzugten DNS Server auf die Werte setzen, die das Studierendenwerk dir gesendet hat.

Herzlichen Glückwunsch 🎉, du solltest jetzt eine funktionierende Internetverbindung auf deinem Laptop/PC haben. Falls es nicht geklappt hat, schreib bitte einen Netzwerkadmin an.
