Hi,
Thanks for your package for reading MAT files and interfacing with MATLAB from R.

This pull request just adds a comment on the readMat documentation. It suggests the use of rhdf5 package from Bioconductor to read v7.3 MAT files.

I don't think it is possible for R.matlab to depend on the rhdf5 package directly because it is not on CRAN, but suggesting it on the documentation makes sense to me, so users who need to read a v7.3 .mat file don't feel "abandoned".

Thanks for your time!

Thanks for this. Do you know of alternative HDF5 packages in R that should/could also be mentioned in addition to the rhdf5 package? I'm asking because I know there's been several HDF attempts in the past but I'm not up-to-date with them myself.

Yes, one could imagine adding built-in support for HDF5 to readMat() by utilizing an external HDF5 capable R package. If so, one would need to add those packages under 'Suggests', which is ok. Also, CRAN allows you to depend on Bioconductor packages as well (even from other repositories too). I've created Issue #20 for this.
