'mosh' segfaults on 64-bit OS X 10.8 #13936

@bitemyapp

It's called 'mosh-scheme' almost everywhere including on other package managers.

'mosh' almost always refers to the ssh alternative from MIT.

Further, when it did install, it returned 'segmentation fault: 11' when I tried to run it.

Cheers.

Unfortunately renames are problematic (if something takes its place, brew upgrade will install completely different software.)

@cmer

+1 for segfault!

@bitemyapp

This is breaking things for a lot of people, and the scheme implementation is broken anyway. Archive it until it someone steps up to maintain it and let the MUCH more prolific project take-over the namespace. I beg of you.

We need to make renames work in brew update. Hopefully someone will step up, not sure I'll ever get round to it.

Maybe it isn't 64-bit tested?

@adamv

Looks like it needs to be forced 32-bit, and its deps compiled with --universal.

In that case it would have been broken for every mosh user, no?

@adamv

@mikemcquaid maybe people are only installing this by mistake looking for mobile-shell

Suggest we just redact this formula.

We've had problems getting mosh to build in the past and I haven't really seen any indication of its actually being used. I'm +1 on redacting for now.

What do you use mosh-scheme for?

@mikemcquaid

Redact it, we can add it later under a different name. More concerned about fixing mosh-shell than upgrades working for this.

Exactly! ;-)

@adamv adamv Remove mosh-scheme.
This software segfaults when run for 64-bit users,
and 'mosh' is almost always expected to refer to mobile-shell.

Would review an updated version that does not segfault,
submitted under the name "mosh-scheme".

Closes #13936.
