Uncommitted modifications error, but no changes appear #14324

@antun

I'm installing homebrew for the first time. When I run brew doctor, I get:

Warning: You have uncommitted modifications to Homebrew
If this a surprise to you, then you should stash these modifications.
Stashing returns Homebrew to a pristine state but can be undone
should you later need to do so for some reason.
    cd /usr/local && git stash

If I run cd /usr/local && git stash, it says "No local changes to save".

If I run "git status" from /usr/local, I get:

# On branch master
nothing to commit (working directory clean)

Any ideas?

@mxcl want to take a crack at this one?

What is the output from: git status -s -- Library/Homebrew.

Also you should brew update (I believe: I changed the output of that doctor check last week). If it claims up to date, what's the output from brew --config?

@antun

I only just saw your reply. In the meantime I had found the problem; I was using an older version of git: (1.5.6.56.g29b0d). It was located at /usr/local/bin/git. I downloaded the latest version (1.7.11.3) which installed itself at /usr/local/git/bin/git. That fixed the problem.

Seems like we maybe need to check the got version for brew doctor.

There is a git version check: https://github.com/mxcl/homebrew/blob/master/Library/Homebrew/cmd/doctor.rb#L829

Could be broken though.
