New formula for the libodbc++ library. #16262

Closed
wants to merge 900 commits into from
@boborbt

libodbc++ is a c++ interface to iodbc and unixodbc. It works under
linux, windows and os x. It is quite mature including a quite large
subset of odbc 2.0.

@mistydemeo mistydemeo doctor: use -V for python version
`python --version` doesn't work in some (very) old versions of
python. While I doubt this is going to come up very often, it's
theoretically possible someone has an old python first in their
path. (python -V works on all versions I'm aware of, including
python3, and comes before --version in the --help anyway.)

Also skips the warning in case the regexp matches nothing, which
probably shouldn't happen. But if it does we shouldn't produce the
wrong warning.

@jacknagel jacknagel Define Symbol#to_proc for Ruby 1.8.6
Ruby 1.8.6 doesn't have Symbol#to_proc, which allows things like
map(&:to_s) rather than map { |o| o.to_s }. 1.8.7 does, though, and
since it is used in a bunch of the superenv code we should attempt to
keep it compatible with 1.8.6.

I have NSS installed to cause a git build break, but trying to build git no longer gives me the error possibly due to this change:

/usr/local/homebrew/Library/Homebrew/build.rb:47:in `dump': no marshal_dump is defined for class Proc (TypeError)
    from /usr/local/homebrew/Library/Homebrew/build.rb:47:in `main'
    from /usr/local/homebrew/Library/Homebrew/build.rb:12
    from /usr/local/homebrew/Library/Formula/git.rb:91
Error: marshal data too short

At least, I don't know what other change could have done this, and I was not getting this message yesterday.

Owner

This should be a no-op unless you are on Leopard

Caused by the test DSL storing the test as a Proc, the exception that is marshalled from the build process back to the main process contains the formula object, but Procs can't be marshalled.

Owner

Yeah, seems so. Something else weird then. I'll revisit later.

At some stage we should stop caring about breaking Leopard. I'm going to stop bottling for Snow Leopard when 10.9 comes out.

We've already had to say a few times that we can't fix something on Leopard. I'm willing to transfer official Leopard support into Tigerbrew if necessary. (That said, I don't have the hardware to test myself either...)

Of course if it's harmless, it's easier for me if fixes like this do live in homebrew.

I'm not going to expend any effort debugging Leopard build failures, but when it's this easy to keep the actual Ruby code compatible... I don't really see the downside.

Yeh, sure, fair enough. Not saying don't fix Leopard just that we shouldn't feel obliged to.

@jacknagel jacknagel Don't attempt installation multiple times
When a dependency of a formula specified on the command-line is also
specified, *after* the dependent formula, installation proceeds as part
of the dependent's dependency tree and then is attempted again because
the user asked for it explicitly. This results in the installer raising
a CannotInstallFormulaError because it has already been installed.

For example:

  $ brew install graphviz pkg-config
  ==> Installing graphviz dependency: pkg-config
  ...
  ==> Installing graphviz
  ...
  Error: pkg-config-0.27.1 already installed

We already have a mechanism for dealing with this, but it does not kick
in early enough. Move the installation attempt check into
FormulaInstaller#check_install_sanity and catch the exception in the
appropriate places.

I'm not sure. But I believe this broke python3. I'm currently unable to install it.

My mistake, Mike.

Error: No available formula for python3

If I rebase out the Tk commit, it works. I suspect that it depends on the Tk check in the original python formula.

Not sure I understand; anything need fixed here?

depends_on TkCheck.new is the culprit.

@samueljohn Ping again.

Reverted, sorry.

Fixed in #17008.

I am fully responsible. We should stop to reuse requirements from one formula in another.
The req. was no longer needed but the python3 formula still attempted to use it.

@jacknagel jacknagel Only mark install as attempted if it was actually attempted
Commit 30a08f5cc707 ("Don't attempt installation multiple times") was
correct in raising FormulaInstallationAlreadyAttemptedError early enough
to prevent the other exceptions in #check_install_sanity from being
raised, but it should not have moved the point at which formulae are
added to the attempted set. Doing so prevents the installer from being
instantiated multiple times on the same formula, even if installation
was never attempted.

Roberto Esposito Merge branch 'libodbc++' of github.com:boborbt/homebrew into libodbc++ 18b298c
Roberto Esposito Added patch solving a memory corruption bug.
On 64bit systems calls to Statement::_getUIntegerOption can lead to a memory
corruption. The problem is in the usage of the 32bit long SQLUINTEGER instead
of the machine-dependent SQLULEN type. The fix consists in a single change
of the former type into the latter.
f906554
@boborbt

I've updated the formula with an additional patch fixing a memory corruption bug on 64bit systems.
By the way, is it normal that the formula has not been merged yet?

@namxam

When using the formula, libnfc still states it is at version "libnfc-1.6.0-rc1-191-g085fb60". Is that correct?

@adamv
Owner

Whoa, what happened here? This needs to be squashed to a single commit and rebased on master; pull requests should also be made from non-master branches. I'm seeing 900 commits here.

@nickdesaulniers

Does this prevent brew from symlinking all binaries from /usr/local/bin/ ???

@nickdesaulniers It prevents nss from being automatically symlinked into /usr/local/bin, yes. You can find its sandboxed prefix by doing brew --prefix nss, or you can use brew link nss to link it manually.

Owner

But don't do brew link nss or things that link to openssl will fail.

Thanks for the tips!

@boborbt

Something weird happened to my repository. I've deleted everything and I am now going to recreate it from scratch. Sorry for the problem.

@Sharpie Could you rebuild this again for Mountain Lion and Lion (sorry) to update to the new symbols (e.g. :mountain_lion)? Thanks.

@springmeyer

@samueljohn - providing these options for CAIRO_INCLUDES and CAIRO_LIBS breaks the mapnik build --with-cairo: mapnik/mapnik#1753. It is the fault of the Mapnik build system, which does not have a sophisticated setup for passing all the flags for cairomm as well (and we don't plan to fix this - rather latest Mapnik master (future 2.2) actually removed the cairomm/libsigcxx dependencies altogether). So, the solution is to remove CAIRO_INCLUDES and CAIRO_LIBS and go back to depending onpkg-config` which will provide the correct paths for both cairo, pixman, cairomm, and libsigcxx.

@springmeyer would it be ok to remove the CAIRO_INCLUDES and CAIRO_LIBS and just add the depends_on 'pkg-config' => :build in the if build.include? 'with-cairo' block?

but depends_on 'py2cairo' is still needed?

oh I see it's already fixed in master. Okay, me being late in reading github notification mails...

anyways now I am testing brew install mapnik --with-cairo :-)

yeah, should be fixed. Please let me know how your testing goes. If you run into problems, in the future I think it would be ideal to create tickets at the Mapnik github site to discuss and then once we've figured out the right solution, moving to homebrew pull request.

I get

==> python scons/scons.py install
#include <cairo-ft.h>
         ^
1 error generated.
