ImageMagick can't render fonts (missing fontconfig?) #15417

What provides the fontconfig delegate?

Of three Macs, two work perfect and one fails. Some "missing font" errors are printed to screen and ImageMagick succeeds except that it doesn't render any text. All are running Mountain Lion, XCode with CLT, and have clean brew doctor reports.

I think the difference is the delegates. The two that work have these delegates (convert -list configure):

DELEGATES bzlib fontconfig freetype jpeg jng png x11 xml zlib

and the one that fails has this:

DELEGATES bzlib freetype jpeg jng png xml zlib

I've installed XQuartz and removed and reinstalled brew and all the packages... no change. Any idea how I can fix this?

ImageMagick doesn't build against fontconfig by default. I'll add it as an option this weekend and we'll make it default if more people complain about the missing default.

That is excellent!

However, I don't understand... How do the two working Macs have fontconfig delegates?

I guess because they have X11 installed or had ImageMagick installed when we had it hard-depending on X11.

Added the fontconfig option and defaulted it to on if X11 if installed in 5b3d3ca. If more people complain about this I'll make it default and roll new bottles. Hope this is ok, thanks!

Thank you! A brew install imagemagick --build-from-source worked, and now that machine has the fontconfig delegate. Right on.

Unfortunately, it still doesn't render fonts. No idea. At this point, I'm feeling lucky that 2 of the 3 Macs render fine.

Final tweak in 834ce4a. Try that. If that doesn't work, sorry :(
