Yeah I definitely thought of CPAN. I've never submitted to CPAN before and I know better how Homebrew works, so I thought this would be an easier route to get the software out there in people's hands and to find and fix any bugs. On the other hand, putting it on CPAN would be more conducive to getting Perl-specific advice, so I probably should do that at some point.

If there's a way to have Homebrew install directly from CPAN, then I guess we can wait on this formula until I've submitted it to CPAN, if you think that would be better.

I kind of took ack (http://search.cpan.org/dist/ack/) as an example in that it's on CPAN, but it also has a Homebrew formula (https://github.com/mxcl/homebrew/blob/master/Library/Formula/ack.rb). The Homebrew formula doesn't use CPAN -- it installs directly from https://github.com/petdance/ack/tarball/1.96

OK, I uploaded it to CPAN.

http://search.cpan.org/~msabramo/App-TarColor-0.005/

I still think it would be nice to have a Homebrew formula to make it easier for folks to discover and install.
