Has Git distribution officially switched to the Google code site? If not, then we will want to keep kernel.org as the primary download site.

http://git-scm.com/ is currently (as of this comment) linking to google-code downloads.

it certainly seems so. the homepage links to Google code, and kernel.org is down but the latest version on the mirror is 1.7.6.1.

Pulled, as it seems likely that the 1.7.7 release will happen before kernel.org is back as well.
