Step 3 - Compete in our Main Challenge

  • The Code and Response Codeathon calls on students to create practical, effective, and high-quality designs and applications based on cloud, data, and artificial intelligence, that can have an immediate and lasting impact on humanitarian issues. We challenge you to develop a solution that will support Natural Disaster Response and/or Mitigation. Additional details of the Code and Response Challenges are available at the following https://developer.ibm.com/code-and-response/

Main Challenge Prizes

  • 1st Place - $1000 + swag bag + special prize*
  • 2nd Place - $500 + swag bag
  • 3rd Place - $250 + swag bag
  • Random drawing for 4 Tello Drones

*One person from the team gets a golden ticket to CGI University in Edinburgh, Scotland with hotel and airfare covered – April 2020

Rules

  • Submissions must use one or more IBM Cloud services or IBM Systems. Use of sponsor or affiliate APIs and open source libraries is also encouraged.

  • Teams of up to four (4) participants, each at least 18 years old, are allowed.

  • A participant may not be part of multiple teams.

  • Submissions will be judged across 4 key criteria:

  1. Completeness and transferability
    • How fully has the idea been implemented? Can it achieve an impact in the field? Can it be transferred elsewhere?
  2. Effectiveness and efficiency
    • Does the solution address a high priority area? Does it achieve its goal effectively and efficiently? Can it scale?
  3. Design and usability
    • How good is the design, user experience, and ease of use of the solution? How quickly can it be put to use?
  4. Creativity and innovation
    • How unique was the approach to solving a long-standing or previously intractable problem?
