Title was: DO NOT USE IN PRODUCTION !!! I was able to read out the main user key password with Pass4Win

This is as designed and intended.

QtPass does not stand alone, it is part of the pass ecosystem.

The passwords and other data are encrypted by GnuPG.

As long as you have the correct GPG private key, you can read them with any program that supports it.

GUI for pass, the standard UNIX password manager
QtPass is part of the pass ecosystem. This means you are not stuck with QtPass, you can use the same password store with many clients.
