Adding Figures

Figures allow for the addition of images, audio, video, and other interactive elements to a publication. Currently creating a figure is a two-part process, creating the asset, and adding the figure to a section. When adding figures to a new section it is always best to save the section prior to adding any figures. This will ensure proper numbering and referencing of the figures added.

#Create an Asset

Step 1

To create an asset navigate to the create content screen.

Step 1

Select the asset type to create for the publication (for this example we will use the Image Asset type).

The default OSCI Install comes with the following asset types: Image Asset, HTML Asset, Layered Image, IIP Asset, and SVG Asset.

Step 2

Next enter a title for this asset and upload the image using the Image Asset form. The title is for administrative use only and is not displayed to a reader.

If a specific thumbnail is required for this asset, upload it now.

Step 3

Click the "Save" button to save the asset.

Click the "Add another figure" button. This will display a new form for setting up the figure. The following is a list of the fields and a brief explanation of each:

  • Asset Reference - Type in the name of the asset created earlier and this will autocomplete the name.
  • Number Template - This field is used to create the figure numbering when the output is generated. fig# will be replaced by the figure index (as ordered in the body field)
  • Caption - This is the caption that will be attached to this figure.
  • Position - For the OSCI Toolkit web-app multi-column layout, this is a hint as to where the figure should be placed.
  • Columns - For the OSCI Toolkit web-app multi-column layout, this is a hint as to how the figure should be sized by the layout.

After completing the Figure form, now it can be referenced and/or placed in the copy.
