Minutes

  1. Testing sprint timing

When is the best time for a testing sprint before we have a release? Don’t want it to overlap too much with ISLE’s sprints due to shared developer pool.

Decision January 20th seems best, will revisit if it’s a large problem for people.

  1. MODS

Ready for testing - Rosie has been trying to test. Things work but it will fail Travis until Controlled Access Terms PR is merged.

  1. Media Browser in Islandora 8
  • Can use it or other content browsers. But the direction of the relationships is a problem. Our media references our nodes, media browsers have nodes referencing media.
  • Example: Blog also on Islandora. Can use media browser to use existing media but it won’t be pulling all of the derivatives of the files, just the original files uploaded. Would lose all of the metadata associated with that media and wouldn’t be searchable in the browser by the metadata.
  • If media browser is views based, we can monkey with the view and get the descriptive metadata available. If not, then it might be more effort. Should talk with users and see what they would want to do - find images by title, collection, etc.?
  • Extend media browser or duplicate it if needed. Entity browser vs media browser.
  • Danny will follow up with Nat to see what the use case is.
  • Is this for exhibits? How to build exhibits then?
    • with paragraphs
    • media attached to non-Islandora nodes
  1. Issue roundup
  • 1386 - adding breadcrumbs to media to show that relationship
  • 1387 - updating core to 8.8. Made a PR.
    • No formal procedure for Drupal updates - sanity check is ok. Testing sprint will find sneaky issues.
    • Additional issue for the future - decoupling Drupal updates from Islandora releases. People may want to update their Drupal core in between releases depending on release schedule so Islandora should not be tied to specific core version.
  • 1390 - testing all of Islandora’s submodules
    • PR out for Alpaca and very large files. Danny said a lot of words that I didn’t understand. Wanted to add test to a submodule and discovered that we don’t have many tests running in the submodules. Danny will have fixes for all the tests in a new PR after the meeting. Travis will take a while to run all of the tests once merged.

Additional discussion:

Q: Islandora has other out-of-date Drupal modules. Should we have PRs for those to update before the testing sprint as well?

A: Yes let’s get all of that in as much as possible before the code freeze for the testing sprint. SOLR search api update has some config changes and it may break some things. Issue is https://github.com/Islandora/documentation/issues/1163

Next 2 meetings are Christmas day and New Years day so they are cancelled. Next meeting will be January 8th.
