Onboarding Checklist
This onboarding checklist is provided for the purposes of ensuring that community members are added to relevant channels in order to be able to do their work in the community. It also provides an overview for others who wish to understand more about how and where work happens in the community.
Overview of this Page
- General Onboarding - for anyone and everyone getting started in the islandora community.
- Contributor License Agreements - a CLA is required if you want to contribute code.
- Onboarding to a Governance Group/Committee - for those recently appointed to a position on the Coordinating Committee, Leadership Group, or Technical Advisory Group.
New to islandora? Looking to get started but not sure how? This is the place to start!
Fill out the islandora Onboarding Form: this will ask you to read and agree to the islandora Code of Conduct, as well as input your email and Github information in order to gain access to the islandora Slack, Google, and Github groups. These are channels where important communications happen and announcements are made.

If you do not already have a Github account, you will have to make one. Join Github here.

See the Islandora Community Calendar.
- You will likely want to get started by joining one of our Weekly Open Tech Calls!
-
If the only permission you are missing is access to the Islandora Slack, you can sign up directly here!
If you are interested in contributing code, you will need to sign a Contributor License Agreement. Read on to learn how CLAs work, what they are for, and how to sign one with islandora.
We also have Islandora Ambassadors available to help ease you into the community and answer any questions you have! Check out the list of current Islandora Ambassadors here.
Do you want to contribute code to islandora? You're in the right place!
The Islandora Foundation collects Contributor License Agreements (CLAs) from project contributors. The CLAs are based on Apache's agreements; they give the Islandora Foundation non-exclusive, royalty free copyright and patent licenses for contributions. They do not transfer intellectual property ownership to the project from the contributor, nor do they otherwise limit what the creator can do with their contributions. This license is for your protection as a contributor as well as the protection of the Foundation and its users; it does not change your rights to use your own contributions for any other purpose.
Corporate CLAs (cCLA) are for institutions that employ Islandora contributors. Individual CLAs (iCLAs) are from individual contributors, in addition to the cCLA. Getting iCLAs provides continuity in case a developer continues to contribute even after changing employment.
To complete a Contributor License Agreement (Individual or Corporate), please click HERE to be taken to the Google Form.
Current CLAs on file can be found here.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask on the Islandora list, or to send an email to community@islandora.ca
You will need to complete the General Onboarding section if you have not already. Inputting information into this Google Form will allow an admin to add you to the corresponding group channels. Make sure that you indicate "Yes" to the question "Are you being added to a governance group?". This will allow you to indicate the group you have been added to in the next section of the form.
Check out the sidebar of this wiki or the Governance groups information section on the wiki homepage in order to find:
