I have been working on a complete rewrite of gRPCClient.jl with tighter integration to libCURL, bypassing Downloads.jl as a dependency. The rewrite is stable, thread safe, performant, and works with ProtoBuf.jl 1.X.

Was wondering if you are open to doing something similar to RelationalAI's rewrite of ProtoBuf.jl where it kept the same name and bumped the version to 1.0. I'm also currently working on getting changes merged into ProtoBuf.jl in order to support code generation for services: JuliaIO/ProtoBuf.jl#283

I don't have an exact timeline for all of this, but wanted to open the discussion.

@aviks can we maybe get @csvance here onboard so he can contribute the work from his current working version (gRPCClient2.jl) joined with the efforts done here?

I'm ready to start working on this anytime. I have a fully working repo with tests, coverage, tagged documentation, etc. I'm incorporating this package into my primary project at work which has been going on for over 5 years now. Quite a bit of stress testing and real world testing has been done already.

All we would need to do is something similar to ProtoBuf 1.0 release where we commit the new repo onto master, get CI / docs / coverage configured, and write a short migration guide.
