I'm just letting you know. I don't personally need CxxWrap (or OpenCV).

With Cxx.jl not working again, yet, I think people are relying on CxxWrap...

I'm curious why CxxWrap can fail, if that's happening, with Julia having syntax guarantee; know why Cxx started failing (a bit of an exception) and I believe that doesn't apply.

I learned about cppyy (which seems good, and well documented) on discourse (and github), for Python; and proposed for Julia too:

Looking at it it seems more comparable to Cxx.jl, right? And CxxWrap, more like Boost.Python? Or even similar to SWIG?

Just ran into the same issue when I tried to use FastJet.jl on Julia v1.7.

Edit: This was not due to CxxWrap itself - when adding FastJet, libcxxwrap_julia_jll gets downgraded from v0.8.8+0 to v0.8.5+1, which is not compatible with Julia v1.7.

I have strict bounds on dependencies. @oschulz as you point out, I think your problem is directly related to FastJet.jl, so please file a bug report there. PR is also welcome and should be straightforward to implement 🙂.
