Just in case, could you describe your particular use case with alt tags? Is it required for accessibility of the map?

Yes, our site went for review with accessibility consultants and their
feedback was that we should be using alt tags for visually impaired people
. I'm not an accessibility expert myself, so I can only trust them on this

  • it makes sense to me though.
