Before installing LegacyXperia, pressing (and releasing) Shift would cause the next letter I type to be a capital, and the letters after that would be lowercase. Pressing it twice would enter caps lock mode. The cursor would change to indicate which mode I was in. The blue button worked the same way for producing symbols. I'm pretty sure cm-11-20141224-UNOFFICIAL-LegacyXperia-mango worked like this as well, except for some edge cases like input boxes on Facebook web pages.

After installing cm-11-20150501-UNOFFICIAL-LegacyXperia-mango, I have to hold down Shift while pressing a letter in order to produce a capital. Just pressing and releasing Shift causes the cursor to change for a split second and then revert, but the next letter is not capitalized. Caps lock seem to be completely unavailable. This regression exists with the blue button (for symbols), too. Having to hold down a button while pressing another one is really awkward, and a step backward for usability.

Also, I think I remember holding down a key to produce letters with diacritics, but that seems to be broken as well. Now a long press just repeats the letter, which is useful for keys like Backspace, but not so much for letters. A forum user reported the same problem.

These bugs are present regardless of whether my physical keyboard setting QWERTY or English (US).

Confirmed. There is no possibility to use diacritics with physical keyboard now.
Also, blue button and shift have to be held now what is much less convenient than it was before when they acted as permanent switches.

Addendum: The blue button doesn't work at all in English (US). It changes the cursor while held down, but doesn't produce any character at all when pressing a letter key along with it.

Same behavior of the shift and blue key with the German QUERTZ version of the phyiscal keyboard. In addition the German Umlauts do no longer work. Usually on long pressing a, o, u or s key produces a popup windows from which you can select the correct Umlaut. With the new version from 2015/05/01 no popup appears but the pressed key is repeated.

Confirmed. With the new version from 2015/05/01 on mango, no â,ö, ... on long pressing (physical keybord, french layout).
in addition : no actions with long press on vol+ or vol- and photo-shutter, despite option checking for control music player (worked on 2015/04/07)

so : long pressing bug ?

Regarding shift key has to be held / can not be toggled - keyboard type has to be "ALPHA" not "FULL" in /usr/system/keychars/pm8xxx-keypad.kcm (reboot phone after editing that file!)

But maybe there is just the wrong keyboard layout selected in Android Settings, see related issue: #966

I also have the following issues in iyokan cm11 2015/08/30:

  • blue key, shift key need to be held down in web-formulars (NOT in apps like What'sApp)
  • umlauts or accents not appearing when longpressing, ONLY in webformulars either!
  • no information if im in fn "mode" or shift "mode", which is dangerous because fn+backspace deletes the hole line (which is a nice feature by the way)

Keyboardlayout is QUERTZ-Xperia Mini Pro / Pro Keyboard

By the way: sony stock roms accept the marked umlaut automatically if continuing writing, which is very convinient for languages like german. Would love that feature in this ROM as well!
