[Bug]: Reply are not visible in the articles federated by Wordpress

Hello,
after a brief discussion with dbzer0 on lemmy.ml which clarified some points for me, I believe this may be considered a bug.

What I am trying to do is share an article on Wordpress by tagging an already existing community on Lemmy using the "federate author profiles only" option of the ActivityPub plugin on Wordpress.

So unlike what dbzer0 did, who federated the entire site and its posts are visible in a dedicated and separate community. I am trying to achieve a similar effect but starting from an already existing community.

I am doing some tests with the Wordpress federation with ActivityPub. It works very well even with Lemmy:

• articles are automatically posted to the Lemmy community if mentioned
• if I reply to a Lemmy account directly on the post, everything works well and my comment is also visible on the blog (example reply from Martufello: https://feddit.it/post/14612919 is also visible on the site: https://www.lealternative.net/2025/02/05/fridgey-unapplicazione-per-la-gestione-degli-ingredienti-in-cucina/)

but

• however, if the user receives a reply, in this case, the reply is given by “testuser,” the latter is not visible in the Wordpress article (in the article, in fact, only Martufello’s first response is present.).

This does not happen if instead the "Both author and blog profiles" option is used on ActivityPub.

Steps to Reproduce

1. have a Wordpress blog with official ActivityPub plugin actived with option "Author Profiles Only"
2. create a post on Wordpress and tag a community like @test@feddit.it
3. try to reply on lemmy and the first comment will found on website but the answer to the reply will not.

This sounds like wordpress fails to receive the comment sent by Lemmy.

hello, not the first reply but the reply to that comment.

It is only visible if the tag of the person who wrote the comment is manually added to the reply; otherwise, the comment is not visible on WordPress.

What I'm referring to is the option 'federate author profiles only' and creating a post on WordPress tagging a community.

The post will be automatically created in the cited community and the replies are visible, but replies to replies are not shared on WordPress unless the author's handle is manually inserted.

If, on the other hand, we are talking about the federation of the blog and viewing it on Lemmy as a 'group' (so without citing an already existing community), that works correctly for me too with replies and replies to replies."

If you're interested, I found another bug or at least another problem in the federation that can cause confusion.

If in @pfefferle plugin I activate 'Bot author and blog profiles', the posts are automatically visible here: https://feddit.it/c/lealternative.net@www.lealternative.net

However, if a person on Mastodon searches for the article's URL and comments on it... their comment will be visible on WordPress but will not be visible on that page on Lemmy.

To understand if it was my problem, I also tried on another blog (that of dbzer0) but the result is the same.

Another curiosity: this comment by Stefano Marinelli did not appear on Lemmy until I directly replied to it via WordPress: https://feddit.it/post/14817554

From that moment, the comment also appeared on Lemmy (both my new one and the old one by Stefano Marinelli made on Mastodon).

There seems to be no problem in Lemmy here, so please make an issue in the wordpress-activitypub repo instead.
