Email Security

While it is easier to use home.mycroft.ai to set your email username and password, some people would like to be able to not enter their email and password on home.mycroft.ai as they see this as being less secure.

Tutorial:

This will teach you how to add your email so that you do not have to use home.mycroft.ai to configure the skill with your email and password.

NOTE: This is for technical users.

  1. ssh into your mycroft/picroft or open a terminal in Linux.

  2. Next cd /home/mycroft/.mycroft/ (or cd ~/.mycroft/ if you're on the Linux install.)

  3. If mycroft.conf exists, add the following replacing the placeholder values with your own values:

     "email_login": {
         "email": "your@email.here",
         "password": "Passw0rd",
         "server": "my.server.com",
         "port": 993,
         "folder": "inbox"
     }

Make sure to check that what you are adding fits in with the rest of the file (is valid json)!

  1. If mycroft.conf doesn't exists, create the file, and add the following replacing the placeholder values with your own values:

     {
             "email_login": {
                 "email": "your@email.here",
                 "password": "Passw0rd",
                 "server": "my.server.com",
                 "port": 993,
                 "folder": "inbox"
             }
     }

You now should be done!
