This issue is for discussion of the use case “Access additional information about a point on the map”, its examples & list of required capabilities.


GIS commonly has the ability to "identify" features as you click on them. This is also built into the img@ismap functionality, which is a bit out of date now and due for an update :-).

I think this is a good example of a use case that maps to multiple capabilities.

For the end user, the use case is that they can select points on the map & find more information. But where does that info come from? Two main options:

  • the vector feature data that was used to draw the map (showing the labels/names of the features, plus lat/lon coordinates)
  • a query to the server with the selected coordinates, returning whatever data the server thinks is important.

The second is a type of link behavior & needs to be considered within that context.
