As requested in the title.

Given that removing tags is easier than adding them manually, I'm not quite sure what issue is.

I almost never want to add these tags. So now I just have to delete them every time.

I guess We don’t normally want to add ele tags to all new tags. Wiki Key:ele, "This is mainly intended for mountain peaks but could also be used for elevation of airport runways and many other objects".
Luckily, I found another app that doesn’t automatically add those tags, so that’s no longer an issue for me.

A few points:

  • The accuracy of the elevation from a GNSS receiver is currently in most cases several meters.
  • When you make a new tag, most often the antenna of the GNSS receiver is 1-2 meters above the ground. Vespucci has no way to compensate for this.
  • Wiki ele:wgs84, "It is not completely clear whether the values are referring to the ellipsoid or the geoid. If you have used this tag in the past, please clarify." In Vespucci value is the same as ele=*. No additional information.
  • Today, almost everyone uses GNSS receivers, so I think *=GNSS should be used most often instead of *=GPS.
  • Using source=GPS is questionable in my opinion. source=survey is better, if at all.

Perhaps the most versatile settings for the advanced user would be the ability to choose for themselves which tag he wants to automatically add to each new tag.

isn't adding elevation to a node the thing that sets the "New node at GPS position" apart from just adding a node by hitting the "+" and then tapping the blue arrow that shows the location on the map?
I think most people do the latter if they don't want to explicitly use the x,y,z location. If adding the elevation was removed, the whole option became useless.

The "New node at GPS position" feature is the only way I know, to set the point easily and accurately to the location indicated by the gnss device.

In practice, I almost never feel the need to add a ele:*. But maybe I can increase the usage if Vespucci supports its easy to use and right way.

Now Vespucci automatically adds the ele:ellipsoid. I found that the ele:ellipsoid has only been used 8 times so far. (https://taginfo.openstreetmap.org/keys/ele:ellipsoid). So, is this key really necessary?

I'm running from git and don't see ele:ellipsoid, so I think that's moot.
I can see that someone wants or doesn't want elevation in a created node in varying circumstances.

So one approach could be to have

Add node at current horizontal position
Add node at current 3D position

as two options in the use position submenu.
