Some graders would like to download a tarball with all the files of a group.

Hmm, this should be fairly easy to achieve using subversion. Have you considered that?

  1. Get the svn export commands
  2. Select desired grouping
  3. Svn export grouping and tar/zip whatever :)

I guess you don't have SVN+Webdav set-up on your server?

For the moment, SVN+Webdav is not set-up.

I wrote a method to export a revision last summer. I think it should be easy to re-use it for this feature.

Agreed.

As a current work-around you could setup svn+webdav (make sure to include the right svn_authz file for authentication). Shouldn't be that hard.
