When ConEmu wants to autoupdate, it would:

  • Download in the current non-elevated ConEmu process.
  • Close the current non-elevated process.
  • Do the extraction with elevation.
  • Restart the non-elevated ConEmu process for some user.

On my machine there're currently two console users logged on (with fast user switching, win81pro).

It appears that ConEmu restarts for the user who logged on first.

If that's not the current user, then it just looks as if nothing happens after extracting the update, but in the process list you can see a freshly-started ConEmu for the wrong user.

Subsequent autoupdates would also fail because it would not close the process for the other user and fail to overwrite the files.
