We should replace the use of Crusher in archive files (for updates) with something like http://libarchive.github.com. This would be a big step toward getting rid of Crusher completely.

Would LZMA (http://www.7-zip.org/sdk.html) be any better? Their implementation is/was used for .7z files and it's apparently in the public domain (at least according to them and Wikipedia, which probably cites their website). Do you need the flexibility in formats or are you just looking for a replacement file compression library?

Done, finally. I do need to wait at least a few weeks for everyone to log in and get the new club before putting up a client update that requires it.
