For the powershell cmdlet get-azvm, in this page: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powershell/module/az.compute/get-azvm?view=azps-1.4.0#description.

It says "The Get-AzVM cmdlet gets the model view and instance view of an Azure virtual machine.", and it also provides a little description about model view and instance view, but I'm still not very clear the difference of them.

Could you please provide more details / exmaples of the model view and instance view.

+1. Even as of know, there's scarce - and sometimes conflicting - data about this.

Take for example the link that the OP posted (this goes to the current version). The description there states that The model view is the user specified properties of the virtual machine. The instance view is the instance level status of the virtual machine.

Over at the soon-to-be-discontinued AzureRM module's Get-AzureRmVmss cmdlet documentation page it's stated that The model view is the user specified properties of the virtual machine scale set. The instance view is the instance level status of the virtual machine scale set.

So it appears that the concepts of model view / instance view apply to at least VMs and VMSSs. Are there other resource types where it applies? Also, I've encountered this notion in the naming of properties within ASM (Azure Service Management)-deployed VMs, so I take it that the concepts apply both to the ARM and ASM deployment models?
