Important

This issue was migrated from Trac:

Origin https://midnight-commander.org/ticket/3767
Reporter cri (cri@….org)

I can't find any information in the internal help, or man page, or wiki, about the "Panelize" command in the "Left" or "Right" menu.

I suspect this is related to the (well documented) "External panelize" command, but when I select it, I'm left clueless with an empty panel. Now what?

Since this is more a help request than a bug report, maybe it can be better answered on the mailing list.

I dug into the source code and posted more information at:
https://mail.gnome.org/archives/mc/2017-February/msg00010.html

Notes:

Things to do:

  • A cleanup patch should follow (to get rid of the "@todo" comments in patch 0001, and to get rid of cd_panelize_cmd()).
  • Patch 0004 (the documentation itself) needs work.

Very nice.

I agree! :) Thank you very much for the explanation and for completing the feature.
I'll be glad to help with the documentation as soon as the feature is stable.

  • Milestone changed from Future Releases to 4.8.20

Just to update you:

I want to document some more of the code (e.g., an undocumented "follow" feature was committed as part of #275), so this ticket will have to wait till 4.8.20 because I need to do some more investigative work. I'll probably also have to start another help page ("Panelization", or "Panelized panels").

Replying to cri:

I'll be glad to help with the documentation as soon as the feature is stable.

The feature is stable. I can certainly get help in wording the text and getting opinion if it's clear enough.
