[ Session Name ] Wring your Fibre
[ Primary Space ] Decentralization
[ Secondary Space ] Digital Inclusion

[ Submitter's Name ] Neharika Mahajan

[ Additional facilitators ] Ashita,

What will happen in your session?

During the session, emerging eco-friendly fibres such as bamboo, hemp and banana fibres will be used by the participants to weave small tokens such as coasters, table mats etc. They will:

  • wring the fibre to make their own yarn
  • design the product on an interface
  • weave their designs using yarn on hand-held mini looms

What is the goal or outcome of your session?

The session aims to raise awareness on these new fibres and their potential in existing industries such as textile and paper. Given the stress placed on cotton farmers in developing countries, development of these new fibres will help distribute demand over a larger group of farmers and thus create income for many more farmers. In textiles, these new fibres can also empower artisans who work on handlooms to create newer products that meet the needs of our world and its needs for environment friendly options. The overall objective is to introduce participants to innovative models being created at the grassroots, which are based onc rcular economy.

If your session requires additional materials or electronic equipment, please outline your needs.

We will need a projector, screen, power cord and stationery supplies such as drawing sheets, sketch pens and post-its.

Do you need 90mins and do you think this could turn into something which could be exhibited later?
