I'd like to suggest a plan here:

  • Do a 5-10 min introduction to Github at the next staff call (will cc Mari as soon as she creates an account, as I'm not sure when that is)
  • Continue weekly Gitclub meetings, every Wednesday 9am PT / 12pm ET / 5pm GMT. Gitclubbers of all skill-levels most welcome. https://etherpad.mozilla.org/gitclub
  • Perhaps two ad-hoc beginner sessions the first two weeks of the year. Suggest attending one or the other:
    • Friday January 9, say 7am PT / 10am ET / 3pm GMT, and
    • Tuesday January 13 2pm PT / 5pm ET / 10pm GMT.

We can host these in #mofodev vidyo channel and possibly record them for later reference or community resources.

It would be really helpful for me to learn more about how GitHub is being used: 1) for conversations, 2) for bug tracking (or next steps on projects and initiatives) and 3) as a code repository. How do these different uses interact?

Suggest we reverse the times for Jan 9 and Jan 13. So:

Friday January 9, 2pm PT / 5pm ET / 10pm GMT, and
Tuesday January 13, 7am PT / 10am ET / 3pm GMT.

@thisandagain @simonwex Would either of you guys be available for this Friday's Jan 9 session to help answer questions about Github workflow?

@secretrobotron @k88hudson Would either of you be available for next Tuesday's Jan 13 session to answer Github workflow questions? I'll aim to be at both so can provide some continuity between sessions.

@mmmari says the next all-staff meeting is January 26 – https://mana.mozilla.org/wiki/display/FOUNDATION/MoFo+Monthly+Staff+Call – so we'll try to do a super breezy presentation/wall-through / Q&A then, as well.

If we're able to lock down these training times in the next couple hours, I'll include it in my mail to all-mofo EOD today. Would be a useful add.

Friday January 9, 2pm PT / 5pm ET / 10pm GMT, and
Tuesday January 13, 7am PT / 10am ET / 3pm GMT.

@OpenMatt Yes, let's consider these official. There will also be the regular GitClub on Wednesdays for people to jump into if they want more.

  • sweet! want to flag that this is also about training each other in how we want to use GitHub issues -- our social conventions for how we use labels, how to "mention" someone (e.g., old "needinfo"), how to label by heartbeat, etc.

Oh -- just saw it's all here. I think the confusion was just with the other GitClub etherpad, above.
