I have tested the following with MPD version 0.20.22 and 0.20.21.

When I monitor MPDs idle events:

mpc idle

and then replay the current song:

mpc play $(mpc -f %id% current)

No new idle event is logged. It does log idle events when I seek the current song to 0 (mpc seek 0), or when I play any song other than the current song.

If this is intended behavior, the documentation should be updated in my opinion, because it currently says:

player: the player has been started, stopped or seeked

without excluding the current song. But I don't think the current song is in any way "special", so I would have assumed idle events to be sent regardless of whether the seeked song is the current one or not.
