Looking to differentiate between mp3 and Flac files is there a category in which I could apply a filter expression on?

Again with the documentation, I'm missing a list of these categories I can use the expressions upon,

As a workaround, I tried to apply regex with "File" and it provided an error mesage
mpc search --wait '((AudioFormat=="48:24:2") AND (File=~".*mp3$"))'
mpd error: '==' or '!=' expected

So, do you wish to match the file type or the file name?

And what's your definition of "file type"? How can it be determined?

When I approached you, I thought about the file extension and now your previous question (about file name) kind of makes sense to me now. I suppose regex =~\.mp3$ vs. explicit filter file_type==MP3

I would be fine with both options.

BTW I'm a professional Product Manager and I offer my help if you want it.
