Unbound 1.13.1 crash on Windows XP wSP3

The log doesn't provide much information. Could you increase verbosity? 3 would be enough.
If you could also share translated text for the popup windows that would help.

I will have to mention though that if the issue is because of the windows version we won't be able to do much since windows xp is not supported since 2014.

If you have do-udp: no unbound does not listen on udp either. You can use:

do-udp: yes
tcp-upstream: yes

instead. We can then see if the error is related to UDP to upstreams or not.

You will get the log output in the command line before crashing.

(1) Note that the complaint is not from unbound, but from the OS itself. I suspect that you need to adjust the "service.conf" file. It probably has some a different path pointing to the default place and not where you installed unbound. (2) I notice that you are running under vmare emulation. I suspect that vmware doesn't support WinX so you might run in more problems. (3) I think that trying to run a modern binary on an disbanded OS not a great idea. If you really have to run XP under vmware emulation, it is likely better to run the unbound on the host system (assuming that that is the host uses an actually supported system) and have the guest use that as the resolver.
