Commit 70d4b0b imported a new version of README.md, but the syntax of the links for Markdown was wrong:

http://example.com/[Link text]

The correct syntax in Markdown is:

[Link text](http://example.com/)

This commit corrects the syntax of 10 such instances.

I am aware the CONTRIBUTING.md file says never to make a pull request to master. I checked with @hedenface to confirm it was OK to do this, as that is where the relevant change on which this fix is based is. Also adding myself to THANKS per his request.
