Motivation for this change

This seemed like a reasonable addition whose absence has bothered me for a while.

What’s new

The error raised when trying to build a package marked as broken, insecure or unfree, or that is not supported on your system, will tell you about the environment variable you can set to ignore the error. Example:

error: Package ‘apple-framework-Foundation’ in /home/jakob/nixpkgs/pkgs/os-specific/darwin/apple-sdk/default.nix:137 is not supported on ‘x86_64-linux’, refusing to eva

a) For `nixos-rebuild` you can set
  { nixpkgs.config.allowUnsupportedSystem = true; }
in configuration.nix to override this.

b) For `nix-env`, `nix-build`, `nix-shell` or any other Nix command you can add
  { allowUnsupportedSystem = true; }
to ~/.config/nixpkgs/config.nix, or you can set the NIXPKGS_ALLOW_UNSUPPORTED_SYSTEM environment variable.

Things done
  • Tested using sandboxing (nix.useSandbox on NixOS, or option sandbox in nix.conf on non-NixOS linux)
  • Built on platform(s)
    • NixOS
    • macOS
    • other Linux distributions
  • Tested via one or more NixOS test(s) if existing and applicable for the change (look inside nixos/tests)
  • Tested compilation of all pkgs that depend on this change using nix-shell -p nixpkgs-review --run "nixpkgs-review wip"
  • Tested execution of all binary files (usually in ./result/bin/) N/A
  • Determined the impact on package closure size (by running nix path-info -S before and after) N/A
  • Ensured that relevant documentation is up to date (I think)
  • Fits
Advertises the relevant NIXPKGS_ALLOW_* environment variable in the
error message that is presented whenever someone tries to build a
broken, unfree, or insecure package, or tries to build a package on an
unsupported system.
