I have run my own benchmarks and multi_bench.js and have found no difference between the hiredis parser and javascript parser. I even found it to be slower than phpredis on SET operations.

I have done npm install redis hiredis for both local directory and global (-g) installs. hiredis appears to compile just fine when installing.

It just doesn't seem to actually be using hiredis or hiredis is no better than the javascript parser.

hiredis should be faster than the old parser, and about the same as the new javascript parser. the mult bench definitely told you it was using hiredis vs the js parser?
What version of node_redis were you using? The new JS parser is faster on certain operations (still called "javascript").

Just comment if there's anything else.
Good luck!

I've found hiredis to be faster, for sure. It will depend on the commands you are sending, the data, the server connection, and other things. One easy way to see is run the test.js which will tell you what parser it is using in the header.
