Hele-On GTFS

Schedule data for the Hele-On Bus in the Big Island of Hawaii

The General Transit Feed Specification (GTFS) defines a common format for public transportation schedules and associated geographic information. Feeds like this one allow public transit agencies to publish their transit data and developers to write applications that consume that data in an interoperable way.

This feed was created by Tiger Oakes with permission from the County of Hawaii. It is used in Big Island Buses, an application for viewing bus routes and stops for Hele-On. This feed was planned to be added to Google Maps, but was never published in the end due to lacking interest from the County of Hawai'i'.

The feed can be downloaded from GitHub as a ZIP file for use in your own software. You can also contribute to the project by submitting a pull request. The feed was officially sanctioned by the County of Hawaii, but they currently do not update this data themselves. Help keep the island's online data current by editing the feed to reflect changes in the schedule by Hele-On!

Building

The GTFS files are located in the gtfs/ folder. To create the GTFS ZIP file, you can either manually rename the CSV files to TXT files and send them to a ZIP folder, or run the build script in the command line (using node.js).

node scripts/zip.js > {{ destination_file }}.zip

This zips up the files in the gtfs folder then outputs them to stdout, which can be saved to some file. Replace {{ destination_file }} with the desired filename.
