ISNI2ORCID - linking ISNI and ORCID identifiers

Tool for searching the ISNI registry by name and adding one or more ISNIs to ORCID profile as as external identifiers.

This is a project by ORCID EU labs and ODIN - ORCID and DataCite Interoperability Network.

Background

The application is built with the ultra-simple Ruby-based Sinatra framework and relies on the omniauth-orcid gem for connecting to the ORCID registry.

Installation

The Ruby app should work in a range of Ruby / webserver environments. We've found a micro-virtualization and devops based environment most useful for development work.

Here's how to quickly get up and running with a local virtual box using the provided Vagrant and Chef configuration:

Requirements

Installation

git clone git@github.com:ORCID-EU-Labs/ISNI-ORCID.git
cd DataCite-ORCID
gem install librarian-chef
librarian-chef install
vagrant plugin install vagrant-omnibus
cp config/settings.yml.example config/settings.yml
vagrant up

Note: You'll seed to populate the client secret and client id in settings.yml.

If you don't see any errors from the last command, you now have a properly configured Ubuntu virtual machine running ISNI-ORCID. You can point your browser to http://localhost:8080.

Production deployments (AWS) w/vagrant-aws

Set environment variables:

Variable Notes
AWS_ACCESS_KEY See AWS docs
AWS_SECRET See AWS docs
AWS_TAGS_NAME Name of server
SSH_KEY_PATH Location of SSH key used to access instance

Run vagrant up

  vagrant up --provider=aws
