The referenced NTv2 file was attached to the message this is a reply of:
http://lists.maptools.org/pipermail/proj/2012-February/006119.html
the message was too big and was waiting for moderator to approve it.
The file is also too big to attach here.

We're waiting for an official statement about distribution licensing.
Alternatively we could use the one I derived which can be found here:
http://lists.maptools.org/pipermail/proj/2012-February/006093.html

I note that the CH file is using +towgs84 and +nadgrids, but there is no well defined behavior in such a case. I'd appreciate this not being done. Also, please add comments in the file indicating how it is intended to be used.

With regard to the grid shift file, can you not host it somewhere and add an http url? Are you waiting for a statement from me on the derived file? If the original file was ok to distribute, then a derived file should be. I don't recall if I checked the original file carefully with regard to distribution rights.

I didn't drop "+towgs84" due to the rumors that it may in the future be used for points outside the grid. No problem dropping it. I'm attaching a new version w/out it and with comments added.

It looks like swisstopo published the new gridshift file here:
http://www.swisstopo.admin.ch/internet/swisstopo/en/home/topics/survey/lv03-lv95/chenyx06/distortion_grids.html
Direct url to the one we need: http://www.swisstopo.admin.ch/internet/swisstopo/en/home/topics/survey/lv03-lv95/chenyx06/distortion_grids.parsys.65772.downloadList.15818.DownloadFile.tmp/chenyx06etrs.gsb

The notice on website says: "you can freely download it", doesn't mention redistribution

The CH file is not installed by make install. It has been added to the EXTRA_DIST variable in nad/Makefile.am and nad/Makefile.in, but should also have been added to the pkgdata_DATA variable. The attached patch fixes this.

From time to time Swisstopo changes the location. Currently the gridshift files NTv2 grid CH1903/LV03 -> CH1903+/LV95 and NTv2 grid CH1903/LV03 -> ETRF93/ETRS89 are located here: https://shop.swisstopo.admin.ch/de/products/geo_software/GIS_info

They are not located at "Downloads" or "Knowledge & Facts" but at "Products & Applications -> GIS tools (FME)"

Link on http://proj4.org/grids.html#switzerland updated in b9b9299

What's the status regarding the derived grid in a temporary location? It's not linked here, is that because it disappeared? What about the last part about distributing the data freely, is that still an issue?

I don't get your point. You can download two files, CHENyx06a.gsb to make datum shift from LV03/CH1903 to LV95/CH1903+ (EPSG:21781 to EPSG:2056) and CHENYX06_etrs.gsb for transformation from LV03/CH1903 to WGS84 (EPSG:21781 to EPSG:4326)

File CHENYX06_etrs.gsb enables you to do the transformation from LV03/CH1903 to WGS84 directly in one step, otherwise you would have to do this in two steps,

  1. Run datum shift from LV03/CH1903 to LV95/CH1903+
  2. Run transformation from to LV95/CH1903+ to WGS84

The ticket contains the PDF-File CHENyx06.pdf where it says: "These data sets may be freely distributed as long as the content is not changed." Is there any contradicting statement around?

I was asking about these lines on the website:

And a derived in a temporary location which is probably going to disappear soon.

There's no link to the temporary location, so is it really necessary to mention?

Main problem seems to be there’s no mention of distributivity of the grid from the official website. It just tells: “you can use freely”. The “contact” link is also broken, but maybe someone could make a phone call to ask for rephrasing that.

I had not read the pdf until just now. I agree, we should be able to distribute the grids without stepping on anyones toes.
@hobu What do you say, can we add the swiss grids to the datumgrid zip file?

I don't know about any "temporary location".

In earlier times Swisstopo provided only datum-shift file "CHENyx06a.gsb". File "CHENYX06_etrs.gsb" was not provided by Swisstopo but some smart guys made a transformation on the first file and provided the etrs file somewhere else. Perhaps this was meant by temporary location - but I don't know.

Hi all,
Any chance to integrate the grid in the source?
If you need any help regarding contacting swisstopo to get a clear answer about this I can help, but from what I read I think this is useless.
If no objection, I will make a PR.
