I think a lot of towns would benefit form having a customizable rank system or at least adding more ranks to the current 3. Some examples from Forensiic are: Recruiter, Builder, Co-mayor. And also ranks should have prefixes in town chat.

Right so, I need a good discussion on this. Are we going standard Towny on it (http://towny.palmergames.com/towny/757-2/#Mayors) or McClans (https://bitbucket.org/Kippers/mcclans-core-sponge/wiki/User_Manual). The first are standard sets of ranks (say manager ALWAYS has X, Y Z perms) and the second has customizable town ranks (clan leaders can choose what to give to manager).

I think having customizable town ranks would be the way to go. It gives Mayors more control over what they want specific people in the town doing say for example if you have people building stuff for the town they should have building perms in all claimed land but cant for example invite and kick people out.

Specifically, having the lowest rank being unable to destroy non-plot areas would be my biggest hope for this. Personally I think having more tags is a bad idea; our chat is already getting a bit bloated before adding another to every player. However, if we could have the tags only apply in town chat that would be neat.

I think "Co-Mayor" could easily just be an exec. Recruiter would be what, someone that can invite but not create plots? Builder would currently fall under exec without invite perms?

The town rank prefixes should only show up in town chat. I've seen it done with other town plugins.

My thoughts on the matter: We could have a builder role, which has permissions to build in unclaimed plots, but not to invite/create plots. The normal resident role should simply be able to do things in their own plot, no where else. The co-mayor idea is not needed, as we have executive. A recruiter should be able to invite users, but not have other permissions regarding the role. Giving the messages sent in town chat would be wonderful as the new users in the town would not need to check /t info whenever they wanted to check the roles of the online users. The idea of a set of permissions would be wonderful, as it's simply to maintain and easier to answer questions. I would also like to propose the idea of renaming the roles from what they are default from town to town, but that should come later.

I was just throwing those rank names out there, they don't need to be the official ones. The idea behind the recruiter rank was that an exec isn't always online, so that role would be incharge of inviting players, and have no other extra perms. The builder would be able build anywhere in the town, as long as it isn't in a claimed plot, this role would be incharge of creating new/modifying existing unclaimed plots. The co-mayor suggestion was before I realized that exec's had nearly the same commands the mayor has. Then as everyone else said, regular residents should only be able to build/destroy within their claimed plot. I just don't like the resident-exec-mayor structure.

Everyone has their own ideas of what town ranks they want to use, which is why I think if possible, they should be customizable.

Hi! Let's not forget though that the roles being completely customizable would make the system a bit more complicated and will most likely result in a lot of new mayors giving perms to too many people/giving perms that they are unaware of. If we were to implement this into the system we would probably want to regulate these roles in some way to avoid an increase in griefing/stealing, and perhaps a limit in the number of people per role?
