Binary files get corrupted

Whenever a non-plaintext file is uploaded, the downloaded file is corrupted.

After download:

Even after I change the file extension back to .jpg I keep getting the message that "There is no support for this file". Note the change in size.

Note: the extension change occurs due to the lib mime-types
