Gigabyte BRIX will no longer pass DTS audio through HDMI after update to 4.0.5. AC3 works without issue.

Read that: https://github.com/OpenELEC/OpenELEC.tv/blob/master/CONTRIBUTING.md
Do accordingly or donate a BRIX to the complete dev team.

I have the exact same problem with OpenElec 4.2.0 and the Brix with an AMD A8-5545 cpu.

I have however found a strange way to get hd passthrough to work:

  1. Start the movie
  2. Go into the settings menu
  3. Change the gui refresh rate to something else
Executing step 3 enabled passthrough, sometimes multiple refresh rate changes are required to get passthrough to kick in.

Note that I have playback setup so that the display syncs to the movie refresh rate (not that this makes a difference).

I will attach logs later.

PS: Should I open a new issue since I cant seem to reopen this issue.

That makes a big! difference. There is an upstream bug with AMD gpus, that dts-hd passthrough does not work, if run with refreshrate != 60 hz.

Head over to bugs.freedesktop.org to see.

Ok, but when I change the display mode to 60hz the video does not play correctly. It's too fast and seems to skip frames also no audio when this happens. I only got it to play normal framerate once in 60hz mode. And the passthrough did indeed work when the video played correctly.

Damn should just have bought an intel device :(

Should I still include logs or is this absolutely not an xbmc/openelec issue?

Ok the only way to get movies to play correctly with audio passthrough and normal video framerate is:

  1. Start the video in 24fps mode
  2. Stop the video
  3. Switch to 60hz mode

Now all videos play correctly.

Nope it's an upstream issue, put all your questions and logfiles here:
https://www.libreoffice.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=75064 <- Alex Deucher is even asking if it is still a problem.

Provide him all the logs with drm.debug=0xe added to the .cfg file in /flash

Ok thanks, added a comment and debug logs to the issue you linked. Btw is there an easy way to edit extlinux.conf directly from openelec ssh? (the fs is mounted as ro so cant edit it directly).
