IfxR

Informix native R driver is a high performing data access interface suitable for highly scalable data science and machine learning operations. The core of the driver is written in C language for better efficiency and performance to makes it suitable for IoT and enterprise application while maintaining platform compatibility. Driver installation

We will be working on creating R package for the driver on all major platform. For the time being you may use a prebuilt binary (IfxR.zip) of the driver if you are on Windows 64bit platform. All other platforms you may perform local build to create the driver.

Windows: prebuilt driver binary
IfxR\prebuilt\Win64\IfxR.zip

Building the driver from its source

The two main activities involved in building an R package is building the R runtime library and building R manuals. For building the native shared library from it C/C++ source code R uses GNU C/C++ compiler. When you are building it on windows platform you may install Rtools, it contain all necessary utility to complete the build. In short Rtools provides a toolchain for Windows platform that work well with R. It mainly includes GNU make, GNU gcc (from MinGW), and other utilities commonly used on UNIX-ish platform.

Windows: Software requirements

  • Install R
  • Rtools (GNU C/C++ compiler is part of it. FYI: the advice is to install it at default location which is C:\Rtools, to avoid extra build setup)
  • LaTeX (To create R manuals; a complete build of R including PDF manuals too)
  • RStudio (Optional: it is convenient to use, but no need of it if you plan to use only command line build.)

Linux

You will need a working environment of R (https://cran.r-project.org/bin/linux/) and the LaTeX tools for vignetters creation (e.g. sudo apt-get install texinfo texlive)

Clone the IfxR repo:

Change to the IfxR directory:

Create/Copy a Makefile based on your OS:

Set CSDK_HOME and LD_LIBRARY_PATH environment variables pointing to your informix CSDK directory:

Install the driver in the global R library directory. This process will compile, build and install the library in one simple step:
