Vanilla color palette for Dune skirmish #16245

I think it will be great to have vanilla color palette in skirmish. Now I spend much time recreating for example smuggler brown color, and I never manage to do that correctly.

I don't suggest to remove the custom color option. It is great, but I think it will feel more like dune if there were vanilla colors in the palette. Also it would be good if adding new players assigned them a vanilla color by default,

Also great addition will be the fremen gray color. But it wasn't in vanilla skirmish, I am not sure if other players will like that.

If someone can find and document the specific colors used then they can be included in the default preset colors on the Palette tab.

Campaign maps contain colors that look similar to vanilla for me:

atreides     9191FF

Though not sure if those colors appear in game. Maybe I don't get it correctly, but as far as I understand in OpenRA/mods/d2k/rules/campaign-palettes.yaml it is described what colors to pick from the vanilla 8bit d2k palette. If this is case, can the same be used for skirmish?

The colors used in campaign are hacky and dependent on the owner which defined per map. Colors you described above are still used by stuff like remap colored texts but the units/building don't. In fact that is the case for all 3 mod's campaign.

The current preset colors in all mods are specifically selected for visibility and distinction from each other after many tests. I don't think it is a good idea to change that here, even tho i use original like colors with darker counterparts (since originals has 8 colors mostly) on most of my own mods (RV, GenAlpha, RAClassic).

I'm against it, the current set of predefined colors are selected with caution to make them disctinct from each other and terrain. See #14853 and #11248 for more info.

Also exact original colors in skirmish is not possible without serious changes to remap code.
