Anyone still having problems with Jellyfin installations, with this latest update by Ken? If so, what, if not, what system are you running etc. - is it the TV listing portion of Jellyfin that was the only problem? |

I would like to be part of changing that if we can figure out a way to do it. I can't program and don't know what it would take to give more programmers an incentive to join in.Sent from my Galaxy

#205)
@xjim1 @KeithAbb0tt It was I who mentioned that SD sent out an email. It was not about donating, it was that there was an update that they should install and it pointed to this thread. The first post in this thread does mention ways to support my efforts but I have never outright asked anyone to do so. I was pointing out that as 700 SD SageTv users received that email yet only a handful of users donated. It was more a general comment that the user base is small and a few donations (that I am grateful for) does not entice programmers to update old code...they have to be out of their mind like me...lol

My uray network encoders work great with any hdmi signal. Problem is connecting Sage tuning commands to the TV box. I’ll start by playing with ADBdebugging on the TV box … no real plan just experimenting Sent from my iPhoneOn Mar 14, 2026, at 2:37 AM, LoisGNS ***@***.***> wrote:
I have an older Android TV box, but haven't played with it in a while (I have to climb over some things to get at it at the moment). Assuming I can send it commands, how do I capture its output? I have a small HDMI-to-USB dongle that works in general (I can see it in OBS and I think VLC), but how does Sage see it? Is that what the EXE Multi tuner does, or is that for sending the commands out?

I don't remember ever receiving a message asking for donations(from Keith was it?) and it wasn't the impetus for me donating. The fact that Github makes it almost impossible to keep up on communication between users certainly doesn't help. For me, I'm blissfully avoiding replacing it. I've looked into Kodi and Plex, but at the time, neither held a candle to Sage. At some point I'll be faced with that task, cussing at myself and the universe for procrastinating. Ken, if I had cash to spare, I'd gladly donate again. Heck, if I was rich, I'd hire a staff to maintain and update it just for me. : ) I'm just glad @jusjoken was naive enough to take this on. ; ) We just need another victim. Cheers |

Thank you very much for the suggestions. I’ll start playing around. Sent from my iPhoneOn Mar 12, 2026, at 5:07 PM, wayner9 ***@***.***> wrote:
EXE Multi tuner for Windows, or Gentuner for Android/Unraid, should be able to work with an AndroidTV box, assuming that you can access an API to send commands to an Android box. The method is that these just call a script that tunes the channel. So if you can write a script in Windows or Linux then you should be able to tune the channel. And there might be a few ways of thinking how to do this.
When you turn on ADB it should allow you to remotely send commands to the ADB device. So you would write a program called androidtvsend and then call that from EXEMultiTuner and send it the device and the channel number. It might take a bit of work to figure out but you could probably get AI to write a Python script to do this.
If you plug in a keyboard to an Android box you can send it keystrokes. Same for a Bluetooth keyboard. So if you can figure how to do that programmtically that could be another idea - use a keyboard emulator.
I use Control4 as a home automation system and it has a driver for AndroidTV that uses an app called Zank that you install on your Android Box. If you could figure out how to send stuff to Zank then you should be able to do this.
But you might want to get a real Android box rather than a Firestick - you can get an Onn Plus for $30 that is very good. Then you would install an app and do things through that. I have Xfinity cable and there is an Xfinity streaming app that I can install. Then it would just be a case of figuring out how to be able to control it remotely, although this might not be 100% reliable as you may still have to go through the apps menu so start playing LiveTV and then go to channel 501 or whatever.

I’m with you. The Android app is a lifesaver (thank you fire sticks!). Josh was working on ccs but apparently the transcoded strips them. And I just left his Patreon site after a year of inactivity. Channels downloads or streaming from my Sage folder has a decent closed caption process (not sure how this works maybe it processes the raw Sage file?) I’m sticking with Sage for the long run and appreciate the renewed activity. I’d be happy to pay for more. Btw my current issue is being able to tune an Android streaming box from my provider. I have to do it manually but otherwise the streams are captured perfectly. I’m not that knowledgeable re coding but in the past was able to write scripts to tune Windows MC CableCards with help from the folks on this forum of course. Basic question; what does Sage generate when it tries to tune a channel. Is this routed through a registry entry and then..? Windows MC had its own EXEmulti tuner app … is it realistic to design one for Android streamers? Probably a topic for another thread. I’ve been on the Channels playground to search for a solution but nothing yet. Finally I need to start playing with PrismCast …. Missing subtitle support is my main issue with the android app, and has led to to use Nova Player more than SageTV for recent media consumption - though after so much time (decades?) of SageTV, that does somehow feel like a betrayal! Of course having to switch the player backend for different video formats is also an irritation. But i was very happy with the android app overall, and impressed with the amount of effort put into it.

With around 700 users using schedules direct, and SD emailed all of them my info to upgrade and donate if desired, there we only a handful of dedicated SageTv users who provided any monetary support.
As well what make development in this space difficult is the active user base is so small it drive an iterative try and fail release program that is hard to support as the only testing is my minor tests and the all of you on your live systems... for those brave enough to risk it. And with all the effort put into repairing SD it's really not fixed and really requires a rewrite in order to properly handle the sd APIs that has change significantly in the past decade or more.
I am not complaining as I enjoy development in my retirement but it's pretty easy to find other projects that fulfill that desire and pay as much or more (which is a low bar).
So getting someone interested in updating the android app will be hard as it will be more intensive than SD. I may be interested and have thought about it as I love to learn but I would doubt there really enough interest to pull me away from doing other interesting thing.
Again, not a complaint, just reality for an unsupported app with a small user base.

I really had no Idea. I figured there are a lot more than 700 active
users. Was thinking thousands. Users would only come to the forums when
doing updates with years of use and not visiting forums in between.
Family is 2 separate SD accounts of only 700. I do wonder if there is
some SD account sharing in family in different households which could
make the 700 smaller than the actual user count. I didn't find donating
to be easy given that none were something I've ever used and as I looked
into one option after another over a long period of time. The last
option turned out to be the best for me. I had to learn about each I
knew nothing about before understanding the up and down sides and
finding the last one to be the one.
I can't go without Sage nor can the other household f family once they
saw mine on multiple visits and that was roughly 10+ years ago. They
are not able to maintain theirs on their own beyond renewing the
subscription but even so many years go by between times I need to do
anything.
The alternatives to sage just aren't worth the trouble for not as good
an experience. That doesn't include the changing costs of them and
switching of services.

Ken – Like many here I am a huge fan and in debt to you for your work keeping SD working.
For the record – and long overdue – I’ve joined your Patreon to payoff a piece of that debt.
Whoever attacks getting Sage to play ball with IPTV – I will support you too!
My $0.02 – path of least resistance is possibly similar to the OpenDCT technique to get Windows MC recorded content into sage via an HDMI encoder. There may be better native ways but this is the only “simple” one I can visualize. Others may be way ahead of me. Thinking Comcast App on FireTV to HDMI Encoder to OpenDCT with OpenDCT issuing commands via IP/USB to the FireTV…

Thanks Ken, Andy, and whoever else may have contributed to this work. My server doesn't seem to have experienced the problem other users have this past month or two and I'm not sure why. I'm usually one of those, if it ain't broke, don't fix it kind of people, but the manual install of just the jar and xml file looked pretty simple and easily reversible with a backup copy of those 2 files. Does that sound accurate, or could I be in for a problem if I attempt this? |

Ken and Andy (and others) - thank you. This installation on linux was very smooth. Misc notes about my experience installing sagetv on Linux Mint 22.1: Q: Is there a way to make the Linux SageTV Client windows larger? There are no handles available to stretch it. None of the below appear to be critical. linux SageTV server installation: Maintainer: Jeanfrancois@sagetv.com but the sagetv.com site still exists (although the link to the forum points to the old forum) Linux SageTV Client installation: On the SageTV Placeshifter Servers Manager screen: I selected "no EPG" when setting up the sources (HD Prime, shared with both linux and Windows SageTV servers) but my Linux System Information page says the next EPG is in 14 hours. (Windows next EPG update is 19 hours) I was not expecting any EPG updates. I then changed the "Enable SD EPG Updates" setting to "No" & restarted the client John |

Does this contain the same version of the latest test jar in 9.2.9.8(.1037)? |

Ken, I am using the Unraid docker container, so I followed your instructions and restarted the SageTV container, now none of my HD300s are able to connect, and I can no longer get to the SageTV web gui. I tried to revert back to the 9.2.9.5 sage.jar file, but I am still having the same problem. Attaching the SageTV log file. |

Note: 9.2.16.1048 is a RECOMMENDED update for all SageTV users using Schedules Direct
This release provides the current updates to SageTV's use of the Schedules Direct services in order to fix issues where non-compliant and/or changed api calls were affecting some/most users ability to get current EPG updates.
**Note: this release will now provide a System Alert in the UI to inform users if they are BLOCKED by SD
Windows Installers can be found here...
Linux install files can be found here...
Docker users The container should auto update on a docker restart if your container has SageTVversion set to "latest" (default).
(previous forum docker info)
Manual update can be performed for those not wanting to perform an install by downloading the following zipped files...
Sage.jar
SageTV7.xml
and stopping sage and replacing those 2 files.
Note: if updating from 9.2.10 and above - the only change is the Sage.jar file. The installers however include the full releases.
Change log for this release is here...
Note: after install you can confirm you are running the latest if Setup/System Information shows version 9.2.16.1048
For those wanting to manually update the placeshifter you can use the latest MiniClient.jar file located below...
MiniClient.jar
Thanks to @andyvshr (Opus4) a new version of the UI (STV) is included in this release supporting a few new settings under Setup/Detailed Setup/Customize - "Extra Schedules Direct EPG Options".
Future version updates - if/when there is a future new version of SageTV this version includes the ability to notify you (once) of a new release under System Messages by checking GitHub releases (checks daily). You may disable this check under Setup/Detailed Setup/General - Automatically check GitHub...

Thanks to those who helped with testing so we could resolve the issues that drove this release.
