To reproduce: use OpenGFX + 32bpp.

Cause: OpenGFX uses extraordinarily large sprites for the aircraft. 108x108 pixels whereas the whole plane can be drawn in something like 48x48 pixels so the sprite is 4 times as large as it needs to be.

Solution: fix OpenGFX (and reduce it's file size), which can simply be done with the '-c' option of grfcodec.
One could also increase the size of the 'buffer' for the cursor, but that'd mean unneeded memory wastage just because a GRF wastes space, i.e. will not happen unless there is a compelling reason to make it larger but there isn't such a reason.

That's what's called a work around and you can change the base graphics in the game options window (only when you're in the main menu though).
