+
Software Developers

+

+At Picklive we use live data to make games that people play while watching televised events. These two-screen games can be played on laptops or phones and rely on super low latency real-time data. We are a small team of developers and our goal is to change the way people consume live televised events from sports right through to politics and reality TV.
+

+
+
We are looking for software developers to join us and help us meet this goal, by doing the groundbreaking work that no other start-ups do, for a huge, growing market and with a clear monetisation model.

+
+
You should have great programming skills and broad understanding of software development and web architecture. Main technologies used at Picklive are Ruby, Rails, Mysql and Javascript, so we would expect you to have some skills in this area and to be comfortable with the command line and git version control (we put all the code we write into repositories). Our stack also includes Chef, ActiveMQ and Nginx, so if you know a bit about it, or you have some level of sysadmin knowledge, that would be a huge plus, although it’s not required.

+
+
Why join Picklive:

+
+
You will enjoy working with us if you are comfortable with test-driven development, have a strong feeling about software practices and good understanding of how to do things the Agile way, but you know to break the rules, if there is strong reason behind it. We put a lot of focus on learning (both as individuals and as a business) so you will be encouraged to explore and use new technologies, as well as suggest and introduce your own ideas into our product. We discuss the priorities together but manage our time individually, you will be able to pick the stuff you’re mostly interested in from the backlog. However that also means you should be a good communicator and be able to work with others when needed.

+
+
We are proud in having flexible working hours, so we won’t force you to work 9-5 if you don’t want to. There are no agency-style deadlines, which means you will not have to stay awake at night trying to deliver some boring client work. Instead, we release features we love, when they are ready, and we try to schedule it so that’s suitable for business. We want to move fast and get things done, and we empower you with the responsibilities you want to take to achieve that. We also encourage open source contributions at Picklive and outside of working hours, but we do understand and appreciate that you might prefer to run your own pet-projects in your free time instead.

+
+
About Picklive

+
+
We are VC backed and based at White Bear Yard - a leading European technology incubator in Clerkenwell. That’s one of the best places to work for developers, on the edge of East London tech scene, with great public communication, and tons of tech events happening around (i.e. London Ruby User Group meetups are just 10 mins walk away). You can choose from plenty of lunch options in the area, or join us for a BBQ on our lovely roof terrace. We share the office with other great startups, so you will have plenty of opportunities to meet interesting tech people and exchange experiences.

+
+
We are 18 months old, have growing revenues. and have been critically acclaimed by the tech and mainstream media including:

+
+

+
Techcrunch Europe Awards 2010 - highly commended in the category "Best entertainment and leisure startup";

+
Guardian Innovation Awards 2011 - shortlisted in the category Technology Breakthrough Business;

+
Telegraph Startup 100 - one of the 100 best European startups to work for.

+

+
+
We have global ambition and offer generous share options/salary. If you want to work where web technology meets live real-life events then we want to hear from you. Please contact Krzysztof@picklive.com with a copy of your resume and a brief description of why you want to be part of our team.

+
+
What happens next

+
+
Here’s what you can expect from us after you apply.

+
+

+
We will get back to you in an email, asking to solve a small programming problem and push it to Github or email us back with a solution.

+
We will give you a call to run a short technical screening. We will tell you about our day-to-day work and ask you few technical questions about programming and your background.

+
If we are happy with results, will invite you for a day to work with us. We will do some more programming, and you will be given a task that will require some real-life coding skills from you as well as working with other team members. You will be also interviewed on that day.

+
At this point we will have a pretty good idea whether you will be happy working with us and if we can offer you a job.

+

+
+
We are looking forward to hearing from you soon
