Details of the scenario you tried and the problem that is occurring:
When installing using a pfx file, the pscredential object is passed to the variable CertFilePassword.
According to the Install-AdcsCertificationAuthority docmentation here, this parameter must be a SecureString

The DSC configuration that is using the resource (as detailed as possible):
The configuration looks something like:
xADCSCertificationAuthority CA
{
Ensure = 'Present'
Credential = $Cred
CAType = 'EnterpriseSubordinateCA'
CertFile = $PFXFile
CertFilePassword = $PFXPassword
DependsOn = '[WindowsFeature]ADCS-Cert-Authority'
}
Version of the Operating System and PowerShell the DSC Target Node is running:
Windows Server 2012 R2
Version of the DSC module you're using, or 'dev' if you're using current dev branch:
using the dev branch

I'd like to make a pull request and mimic the logic used by the PfxImport module here line 299
